Kitedex is an independent, open kite and control-bar catalog. This page explains what data the site collects, why, and what it does not do with it. It is written in plain language on purpose.

What Kitedex is
Kitedex (kitedex.com) is an open catalog of kite and control-bar specifications, plus tools built on that data like compare, similar kites, and kite-bar fit. It is an independent, non-commercial project, so this policy does not claim compliance with any specific privacy law. It describes, honestly, what the site actually does.
Account and sign-in
Signing in only needs an email address. You enter it, we send a 6-digit code to that address, and you enter the code to sign in. We store your email address to identify your account and to send you future sign-in codes. We do not set a password, and we do not ask for your name.
Once you are signed in, the site sets a session cookie. It is a single first-party cookie, marked HttpOnly so page scripts cannot read it, and it expires after 30 days. It exists only to keep you signed in. It is not used for tracking or advertising.
Reports you submit
If you are signed in, you can report a problem with a catalog entry (the Report an issue button on any kite or bar page) or tell us about a kite or bar we are missing (Report a missing entry). Depending on what you are reporting, this can include the entry's brand, model, and year, what kind of problem it is, a message describing it, a source URL backing up the change, and, for a copyright or rights-holder removal request, the reason for removal, your name and a contact email for the claim (prefilled from your account but editable), your relationship to the work, an optional link to the original work, good-faith and accuracy confirmations, and a typed signature.
Your signed-in email address is attached to every report as the contact address, so we can follow up if we need more information.
Compatibility votes
On the kite-bar fit page, signed-in users can vote on whether a specific kite and bar work together. A vote records which kite, which bar, your verdict, and your account.
Page views
To understand which pages and features get used, and to rank the catalog by popularity, the site records a page view when a page loads: the path you visited (for example /catalog or /kite/duotone-evo-2026) and the time. That is all it stores. A page-view record holds no IP address, device, or browser information, sets no cookie, and is not tied to your account, so these records are anonymous and counted only in aggregate. This applies whether or not you are signed in.
Server logs
Like essentially any website, our hosting infrastructure keeps standard server logs (things like IP address, requested page, timestamp, and browser user agent) for security and troubleshooting. These are operational logs, separate from the anonymous page-view counting described above, and we do not cross-reference them with your account activity.
What we do not do
We use no third-party analytics or advertising trackers (the only usage measurement is the anonymous, first-party page-view counting described above), and we do not sell or rent your data to anyone. We do not share your email address with other users. Report and vote data may be reviewed by the person maintaining the catalog, and, for copyright-related removal requests, kept as a record that the request was made and handled.
How long we keep things
Your account and its email address are kept until you ask us to delete them. Reports and votes are kept as part of the catalog's history so we can track why an entry changed. If you want your account or email address deleted, contact us using the address below. Anonymous page-view records are kept to measure usage and popularity over time.
Changes to this page
If how the site handles data changes, we will update this page. Since Kitedex does not send account-wide emails for anything other than sign-in codes, check back here if you want to know the current state.
